With Google Plus offering a great opportunity to help strengthen your business’s position online, you must be excited to start building your business page. Let’s get started!
Step 1: Your Google Account
The first step is to login to your Google account. This is the username and password you use to sign on to GMail or Youtube. In the last blog, I mentioned that the fact Google's greatest strength is that all of its properties are all connected. Even if you've never created a Google Plus account, your Google login acts as your key.
Once you've logged in, in the top right hand corner of the screen there will be an icon that will give you access to your Google Plus account.
Step 2: Building Your Page
On the left hand side of your screen there is a button that says "Profile." You want to click on that button and then select "Pages" option from the drop down menu.
Step 3: What is Your Business
Google will now ask you to select a category that best fits your business. You have three options to pick from.
Is it a Storefront, a Service Area, or a Brand? Click the option that best applies.
Step 4: Checking to See if a Listing Already Exists
Google is going to ask if you see your business and will present some options of businesses that already exist. Don't panic. This doesn't mean that someone has already created your business. It just means that a business listing may already exist based on the information provided. If it already exists, you can claim the business as your own. If it doesn't exist, you can build your business from scratch.
Step 5: Creating a Listing
One of my favorite quotes is "Simplify, simplify.*" Google must also like this phrase, because that’s what they’ve done when it’s time for you to create a listing. Type in the street address and phone number and using the power of Google Maps, your business will be placed in its exact location. That’s it!

Step 6: Your Page
Welcome to your Google Plus business page! There are just a few more steps to complete before you can start posting and begin building customer engagement.
Google is going to walk you through the final steps of setting up the page. It will ask you to upload photos of your business and products. You'll be prompted to input your hours of operation. Like any social media page, you'll have the opportunity to add a header image and a profile image.
Google understands how stressful this process can be for a business owner who may not be familiar with building a web page. They offer a virtual tour of the site, if you think you need help updating the page, take advantage of this.
As you start to fill in the missing information, the Google Plus business page will slowly be completed. Once that’s started you can start posting updates and connecting with consumers.
Just as reminder, you’re not fixing all of your problems with this business page. The site will be helpful because Google will index it every time you update the page. This will help strengthen your SEO, but you need to post. And don’t just post text. Post photos, links and videos. Show that your business is thriving. This page, and any social media account, isn't the only answer. It's part of the solution.
