Since 1810, Route 9 has connected Worcester to Boston and has been the way residents and tourists have accessed the cities, towns, and businesses that are located in between. When the road was first opened, it was only a 14-foot dirt road and was privately owned. It was, and is, an essential part of building inter-town commerce in the state. This picture shows how thick traffic could be, even after a heavy snowstorm.
