In New England, there are a few ways to tell that spring is just around the corner. The weather gets warmer and the days get longer. The landscape turns from brown to green and kids start playing outdoors. My favorite sign though, is that baseball starts to make a return to the area. As Boston’s boys of summer are in Florida getting ready for the season, high school and intramural teams take the fields across the Commonwealth.
This photo, taken in 1934, is a bit of a mystery to me. We know that the team is sponsored by Brookline Trust, but I don’t who they are or where they played. One thing that isn’t a mystery is to see why they are sponsored by a local bank. Community businesses and organizations have always helped sponsor local athletic clubs. Growing up, I think the local pet store was on the back of my little league jersey for three years. What’s odd here though, is that a few of these players look to be grown men. Maybe they were part of an intramural league? Maybe a traveling team? I would love to learn more about them, but I need your help.
Who are these ballplayers? Do you recognize any of them? Do you have this picture or others in your hallway? Share your pictures and stories with us. Email them to Wicked Local Media Solutions or tweet us @WLMediaSolution.
