Our Throwback Thursday image today is of Pleasant Street in Malden and dates back to the early 1900s. Although technically not called “Main Street,” Pleasant Street has been connecting businesses and people for generations. A lot has changed in Malden in the 105 years since this image, but one thing that hasn’t changed is the importance of Pleasant Street to the local economy.
Here, early 20th century Malden residents shop and visit their local businesses for day-to-day necessities. Today, Malden’s Pleasant Street is still a destination for residents and visitors. Coffee shops, banks, restaurants, convenience stores, and hair salons are just a few of the businesses you can find in this city north of Boston.
Do you have any pictures of your town’s Main Street from the 1900s or earlier? How much has the street changed since then? Share your image with us by tagging it with #YourMainStreet.
