Throwback Thursday: St. Patrick's Day

Posted by Nick Pizzolato on Thu, Mar 17, 2016 @ 11:18 AM

Every March 17th, millions of Americans wear green, put on a four leaf clover pin and grab a green colored beverage (of course I’m talking about the Shamrock Shake). In Massachusetts, St. Patrick’s Day has always been a big celebration because of the state’s large Irish population. Many cities and towns in the commonwealth celebrate the day with a parade, concert or arts festival. The biggest party takes place in Boston, where this picture of young irish step dancers was taken.

Traditional Irish folk dancing is still extremely popular and, if you have a child in a dance class, there’s a good chance at some point they have learned an irish jig. For the last 20 years, the international Irish step dancing show, “Riverdance” has entertained audiences. In May, this celebration of Irish culture comes to the Wang Theatre and Wicked Local has a chance for you to win free tickets.
