Weymouth, Massachusetts was founded in 1623, making it the second oldest New England Settlement. For the last 392 years, the town has seen the birth of new industries and the success of many different businesses. One of these was the Stetson Shoe Company. Stetson was founded in 1885 and styled leather shoes that kept a traditional pointed tip, even when the national style began trending toward a rounded shoe.
They were the first factory in Weymouth to manufacture their product under one roof. They were also one of Weymouth’s biggest employers for 88 years until they closed the factory in 1973. Did you have any relatives that worked at the factory? Do you have any other photos of the Stetson Shoe Company? Share your stories with us, we would love to hear them.
