It’s also a philosophy that can apply to those of us who aren’t presently enrolled in classes. When we expand our minds, we increase our capacity to understand current events and interpret past actions. People should never stop learning, and Wicked Local U is your opportunity to gain knowledge about science, technology, economics, culture, and health from local experts!
Wicked Local U, sponsored by Edelman Financial Services, is a half-day program for those who are eager to expand their horizons, pursue knowledge, and enjoy intellectual engagement in a fun and informal atmosphere. Our diverse faculty is comprised of experts in their field who have been recognized both nationally and internationally. They want to share with you their knowledge and insight in order to provide you with an enriching experience.
There are five course tracks to pick from during our half-day program. What’s New: Technology and Innovation will introduce you to the latest innovations used to make life better for all of us. WCVB’s AJ Burnett will discuss the tools he relies on as a meteorologist for the region, and Boston University’s John Connor will discuss the latest medical advances in Don’t Feel So Good: New Approaches for Diagnosing Infection at the Point of Need.
Arts, Culture & Adventure explores the fulfilling world of art, history, and literature. Zola Solamente, Director and Co-Owner of Arden Gallery, will offer tips about how to collect contemporary art. Published author and NPR contributor, Ethan Gilsdorf, will share the ways you can get your work published in the 21st century. Lauren Clark, founder of drinkboston.com, will explore the history of craft beer in New England.Health and Wellness: A Better U focuses on the simple things you can do to live a healthier lifestyle. Rana Chudnofsky, from Massachusetts General Hospital, will teach you ways to relax and calm your mind in a busy world. Vera Volfson will introduce you to the basics of homeopathy and home remedies. Dr. Jolene Ross will finish the day discussing ways to strengthen your brain to make it resilient to stress and aging.
Popular Science and Discovery translates high level science into easily understood concepts. James Jabour from Mt. Ida College will take you inside the world of a real life CSI team. Author Dave Zobel will make complex scientific theories easy for any layman to understand, using the show “The Big Bang Theory” as a guide. Do you want to find better ways to communicate with your pets? Animal behaviorist Dot Baisley will lead a course on ways you can make your interspecies home peaceful.
Finally, Financial Fitness classes will be hosted by Wicked Local U’s lead sponsor Edelman Financial Services. Members of their team will lead the classes “Understanding Social Security and Estate Planning” and “The Truth About Estate Planning,” designed to help you prepare your finances for today, tomorrow, and beyond.
